: I have six prints and thought you might be of help in obtaining information on
: them. The six prints I have come from the Janapese wood block prints "The 47
: Fathfull Retainers" or "Ronan". The term means "leaderless warrior" and the
: series is the story of the retainers who, after the death of the leader,
: avenge the death. There are 50+ prints in the entire series, even though the
: title states "47". The original publication, I think, was 1848 and my six
: prints are from the original blocks, but, I was told, from a later striking so
: the images are no pristine but "good condition". I found your web page and
: thought you might be able to help let me know where I can get a current value
: as you have a knowledge of Japanese prints.
: Thanks very much.

I assume the prints you have are from the series "Biographies of the Ronin" (Seichu gishi den),
published in 1847 by Yebi-ya Rinnosuke. This series by Kuniyoshi features almost 60 full length,
individual portraits of the faithful samurai.
Like any collectible, condition and rarity determine the value of the prints. From my observations
in the past few years, the general values (in $US) for these prints are: Good condition $300-500;
very good condition $500-700; early edition/excellent condition -up to $1200.
Also, check out the "Where to Buy or Sell Ukiyo-e" section of this website. It is a good resource
and will give you some idea of print prices worldwide.
