Deep in the bowels of an east asian library,
far back in the folio section, I have run across
several uncataloged folios of ukiyo-e reprodutions
dating from around 1915 to 1920. I've identified
several as published by Watanabe Shozaburo, including
several volumes of "Ukiyo-e hanga kessakushu" and
a partial set of Hiroshige's "Kaisho Tokaido". I've
also run across high quality reproductions by several
other publishers whose seals I can't identify.
I've taken on these prints as the subject of a term
paper and would like to learn as much as possible
about Watanabe Shozaburo and other publishers working
at this time. If any one can point me to books,
articles or web sites or share their own thoughts
on this subject it would be a big help.
p.s. Does any one know what these are worth?
They are very high quality.
