Dear Bill,

From an aesthetic point of view, you might be right. But the appreciation of an art object, in most cases, is very much intertwined with the understanding of it's origin. In the case of Japanese prints all the artists are dead and we should be very cautious not to break any more links with their origin and history.

To put it down poetically: "If you cut off the beautiful flower and throw away the ugly bulb, you'll have nothing in the end ..."
