This signature may look close, but it is not the same as the Toyokuni IV (Kunisada II). This has the age of Toyokuni III and the Toshidama seal. The other says "Third generation" Toyokuni. 3rd generation Toyokuni means Kunisada II, as Kunisada I called himself Toyokuni II, ignoring the claim of the man we call Toyokuni II (Toyoshige). Any print after 1864 signed Toyokuni is not Toyokuni III (Kunisada) but his son-in-laws. Not that it makes much difference as the late work is mostly studio work anyway.


: Thanks but confusing.This has same signature but no red seal.Is the small seal above her hair that looks like the one Noel asked about the artist,or is this Toyokuni? And if someone would give me a full read on both it would be nice to have.This is a pdf file hope it makes it.
