Hi,
Well the obvious suggestion must be Jack Hillier "The Art of the Japanese Book". It is a very fine (and very large) book, which was printed in quite a large edition, so it has been remaindered at a relatively low price (less than $200?). It is not just on Ukiyo-e and it does not cover Ukiyo-e comprehensively, but, for example, Utamaro is indexed on 59 pages. On the other hand, Hillier virtually ignored the small illustrated books with colour printed covers that are very popular on Ebay.

: Does anyone know a good comprehensive book on Ehons of the floating world?
: I am just curious to what is out there; i am particularly interested in Utamaro's Ehons and maybe some of the other well known masters of the early 19th century. thanks
