James,

Two excellent books on the prints of Eizan were written by the scholar Kondo Eiko (1931-2000):

Kondo, E.: Il Mondo di Eizan (The World of Eizan). Rome 1991, 257 pp.

Kondo, E.: 'Eizan: Nippon ukiyo-e hakubutsukan shoz' (Eizan: Collection of the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum). Tokyo 1996, 323 pp. (this was a loan exhibition).

I relied on these two publications (especially the more recent 1996 book) for my article (dedicated to the memory of Kondo Eiko), "Eizan: Putting on a new face - A mirror of fry, asobi, and iki" in 'Andon', no. 71 (May 2002), Society for Japanese Arts, Leiden. Both books are generously illustrated and contain extensive lists of Eizan's prints. Kondo's scholarship was also first rate.

John
