It will indeed I believe. I can understand your reluctance to 'destroy' the integrity of the set, but faced with the destruction of the prints themselves, you really have no option.
The solution I think is just to take the prints out of the package and store them separately, carefully protected in washi folders. Keep the original package as it is ... one day it may presumably be of interest to collectors/researchers, just as 'original' wrappers for prints sets published back in Edo times are of great interest to us these days.
So you don't really need to 'break' anything, just take them apart and store them separately ...
