Speaking of fading of colors—in addition to John Fiorillo’s always on-the-mark comments—I’d like to invite all collectors of Japanese woodblock prints to review the results of an 8-month, spring and summer-long “sun-fading experiment” which we conducted recently.
Our experiment’s purpose was to test the “protection” afforded by the use of UV-shielding glass, and the results were frankly quite shocking. Serious sun-fading occurred, despite the use of “protective UV-glass.” Any collector who is currently relying on UV-glass to protect their prints should review this article:
