Wondering if anyone has background information on the
significance of various items held in
the mouth? Often the courtesan's cotton tissues are,
and that has been suggested to have erotic connotations,
but other instances such as small bags, edges of
headcloths or magicians'scrolls would not seem to have
similar undertones--or would they? I don't have a working
knowledge of Japanese culture or ritual, so would appreciate
any thoughts on the subject-
