Thanks for replying to my question. However, I'm aware of the prints you mention and of their probable connection to Kita and Yaji. What I'm looking for is info on a specific Tokaido series that was to have been based exclusively on those characters. I've viewed 4 of the original preliminary sketches for this series in the collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Other sources make passing mention of the existence of other such sketches, and a publication of the Spencer Museum of Art at the U of Kansas includes a "Shank's Mare Series" in their list of the various Tokaido series. None of these sources, however, gives any details on where they are located, with the exception of Michener's THE FLOATING WORLD which states that Hiroshige finished 11 preliminary sketches for a Tokaido series featuring Kita & Yaji. It doesn't appear that any of these ever made it to the wood carver.

If you run across any info on these prints, please let me know.

Thanks again.
