I've just bought a far to expensive piece of paper from some dealer at that hidious place called "ebaY" and perhaps someone can tell me what it represents :o)
This is it: my ebaY purchase.
What I know about it is that it's a faded impression of a kabuki player raising a kendo stick in anger. His grin has been mutulated by some Japanese scribbling and his right arm suffered from a water stain. It looks like this piece has been cut out of a fan print. The unprinted corner below his armpit suggests that. Now comes the funny part: above his left arm there's an (unknown?) publisher mark and the signature "Kunimasa Ga". It's been placed quite randomly which makes it quite suspicious. Or doesn't it?
My questions are:
1. Does any one know about Kunimasa fan prints? (I couldn't find any)
2. Is this perhaps done by Toyokuni or another artist? (with a forged Kunimasa signature)
If anyone could shed more light on this, please do!
