: Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to buy woodcuts in Tokyo--contemporary or old?
I bought a number of prints at the flea market at the Toji Temple in Kyoto (I believe it's on the first Sunday of the month - better check a tour guide to be sure). The flea market kind of does a circuit around Japan, one day at Himeji another at Osaka, etc., but it seemed to be the biggest and best at Toji. There is one dealer in particular who sells nothing but woodblock prints (alas, most are reprints) and he speaks fluent English. I do not remember his name, but he always sets up several tables with cardboard filing boxes full of prints on top, so he should be easy to spot. Even if you don't find any prints ot your liking, the markets are a great deal of fun (they were for me anyway).
