: : Message from Marsden has eroneously been attributed to me because I made a mistake in entering my question: Is Shiro Kasamatsu still living? I'm new at this. Sorry Marsden. Carolyn Staley

: Carolyn,

: I did not find out if Shiro Kasamatsu was still alive or not. I saw some works of his from the 50's and saw some indication that he was doing book illustrations in the 70's. Also the book on modern woodblock prints by Merritt and Yamada was first printed in 1992 and show him alive at that time.

I also just checked a great print of his that can be seen at the Fine Arts Museum of San Franciso web site, and they still list him as living. I am sure there is a better way to get there, but type this in: http://search.famsf.org/4d.acgi$Record?41967&=list&=81&=woodcut%20&=and&=100&=2&keywords&=yes&=
