Interesting conversation, guys. Couldn't help chiming in on this one, being the fortunate owner of a copy of this book.

The book is early 19th century, and completely original. The artist is Katsushika Hokusai and it's one of his Kyoka ehon. The final price on this rare book was ridiculously low. Kyoka books are rare and in high demand. The colors were faded though and it was only one of a set. Still worth several times that price though.

There are good bookstores in Japan, but you'd better get off the main drag if you want to find any bargains. Don't dream about Ohya Shobo. You won't find anything there at a reasonable price, and most of their books are poor condition. I've been fortunate to find some ehon at local sales in Northern California. The bargains there cannot be beat.
