You might like "Tokuno's Description of Japanese Printmaking" by Peter Morse in "Essays on Japanese Art Presented to Jack Hillier" edited by Matthi Forrer and Neil K. Davey from 1982.
Mr. Tokuno as described in the article was chief of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing of the Japanese Ministry of Finance who wrote a detailed account of Japanese print making including detailed description of colors and their uses for the Smithsonian Institution in 1889. Peter Morse states that the description given in full in his article goes far beyond any other.
