I illustrated a copy of your 'newspaper' print in 'The Art of Japanese Prints' p.121 in 1980. it shows Bando Hikosaburo V as Kagekiyo, one of the Taira clan defeated at the battle of Dan-no-ura in the twelfth century. Although given away with the newspaper (to boost circulation) it is a perfectly genuine woodblock print produced by the traditional methods. Bando Hikosaburo had recently died. The link between him and Kagekiyo which reflected the current news was that in both cases falsr rumours circulated after their death that they were actually still alive.
