: I am very interested in woodblock prints and would like to start a collection. Can you reccomend an informative book for novices?

I have two for you: Richard Lane's "Images from the Floating World", Putman, and Richard Illing's "The Art of Japanese Prints",Gallery Books. I believe these are both out of print, but are readily available through the usual used/rare book dealers (try http://www.bookfinder.com/).You can't go wrong with either of these books, they're pretty much required reading for anyone with an interest in the field.
Regards,
George
