: If I have the same print pictured in Stewart's guide, and the censor's marks appear exactly as in Stewart's image, is it necessarily a reprint???? Should censor marks be random and not exactly placed? Were they chops, or in the block? Thanks for your reply!!!!

The censors appear to have been shown the draft version of the print before the carving of the woodblocks. The censor seals were then incorporated into the printed design and will therefore appear in the same place on each copy. They can therefore be a guide to the earliest possible date of printing but will still appear the same on later reprints [if any].
