: First, I want to thank everyone for being so helpful. As a beginning collector, I learn so much from this board, and regret I have nothing yet to contribute.

: Second, I am a bit confused between two artists, and I hope you can help me sort it out. I have recently seen Japanese artwork (primarily watercolors) listed by a TAKASHI Nakayama, with a bio that sounds like TADASHI Nakayama. However, the works listed under TAKASHI look nothing like the works of TADASHI (as seen in my Kappy Hendricks Nakayama catalog).

: Are these two different people, as I believe, and if so, is TAKASHI an equally respected and collected artist, or are the sellers mixing up names and bios?

: Thanks,

: Elizabeth

There's a current listing of two watercolors by TaKashi on eBay. Listing expires 06/06/99: it contains a few words of bio and the source of that bio info. TaKashi was born in the last century; I'd be surprised if he's still living. My own eBay searches occasionally turn up a watercolor by this artist but I've not seen any other medium listed for him. Hence, you might wish to search among the "Who's Who"-type books of Japanese watercolorists.

TaDashi, on the other hand, has bio sketches in almost every "Who's Who"-type book on sosaku-hanga. Kappy Hendricks' definitive book which you mention is the best but it's becoming dated.

These artists are two different guys, I'll bet.
