In the Catalogue of the Van Gogh Museum's Collection of Japanese Prints, there are a few illustrations of prints which are described as being printed on Crepon (#399-400 by Yoshitora; #403-404 by Yoshitoshi). My questions are: 1)What is crepon and the history of its use in Ukiyo-e? 2) Occasionally I have seen printings by Hiroshige on crepon. Are these of any value for research or for specialized collections? Many thanks to John Fiorillo for providing me with information and his insights on color and pigments used by Ukiyo-e artists.
