Your primary reference book on this subject is;
"The Great Wave: The Influence of Japanese Woodcuts on French Prints" by Colta Feller Ives, Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1974. ISBN 0--87033-098-5. This book should be available at almost any serious library. It has an excellent Bibliography that should point you to more books. There is another book entitiled; "Japonisme Comes to America", by Julia Meech, 1990. This book does go into some depth on Whistler (which I find disinteresting) as well as other American artists.
But the first book on French prints is more Art Nouveau focused with essays on Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Gauguin. And perhaps there is enough erotic reference in this book for you as it has some of them thar naked lady pitchers.
