I think you have hit the nail right on the head, there.

Edward Strange, 'Colour Prints of Hiroshige', _does_ in fact list it as 'Tōkaidō Gojūsan Tsugi Hodogaya' (pg. 157 of the original hardcopy), and I'm pretty sure that's where John Roden's mistaken listing came from.

Hopefully he'll get to your email at some point - I imagine he must get a ton, related to that site!


As to the cause of the original mistake, well, that is a bit confusing. As Guy points out, the station name is not in the main series title cartouche. Odd.

Still, a lesson to us all - take even canonical works with a grain of salt!
