Hi Mikael,

I found this example of a creped Yoshitoshi print, published 1860.

http://www.artelino.com/archive/artist_catalog_show.asp?alp=&art=1271&cay=1&pp=5&pp1=80&rp=41&rp1=792&rp2=41&lvl=2

I can imagine two possibilties:

(1) Some Yoshitoshi prints published around 1860 - 1865 were creped during the original production

(2) Around 1880's when the crepe prints were very popular, print dealers sent some older unsold prints back to a printer to have them creped.

I don't know enough about the subject to say which is true. In any case, your prints are unusual. An interesting question, maybe others can add their own opinions.
