Well, Guy might well be correct (that it was originally only a two-colour print)! I would guess differently, but it is just a _guess_. I can't really add much to what I said in my prior post about the colours:

Well, the black is generally sumi, and sumi contains elemental carbon. You could put that in a tanning bed turned up to high, and leave it for a week, and it will not fade! :-)
