I see that there is a reference to this artist on the British Museum site with the following notation:
Utagawa Kuniyasu (歌川国保) (printmaker; Japanese; Male; 1880s; fl.)
Also Known As Kuniyasu, Utagawa; Sekisai (石斎)
The MFA, Boston also shows several prints by the 1880's version of Kuniyasu. I must say to my uneducated eye none of the signatures on the prints in the MFA, Boston collection look like the signature on my print. But, again, my eye for Japanese signatures is often fooled.
I'll continue to dig for info about this artist, but he is likely one of the many Meiji era artists about who little, if anything, is known.
Thanks!
