Without wanting to take us off the issue of the reading of the kanji, I am wondering if anyone knows the business model for Yoshitoshi's studio? I can imagine Yoshitoshi, or one of his senior students, taking in a large job and then assigning the design tasks to multiple artists in the studio. The Moral Education series would have been a large undertaking (six volumes with an unknown number of prints for each volume*)and I can imagine the work being assigned to multiple artists, with each artist being "credited" on the prints they contributed to.

* A textbook, in six volumes, with the identical title is shown in the National Diet Library database. Some of the illustrations in these volumes are similar to the color prints. Also, some of the illustrations in the textbooks are signed and it looks like Yoshitoshi himself contributed some illustrations.
