I had another look at the signatures on the surimono of the Danjurō series in the RM Amsterdam. They are signed "ko Toyokuni hitsu" ("by the brush of the late Toyokuni") so they must have been issued from 1826 on - after Toyokuni's death and were probably designed by Toyokuni II.
