Anders makes a very important point. Any "complete" hard-copy catalog will be out-of-date almost as soon as it is published.
For that reason, I will never attempt to publish my catalog of the printed works of Takahashi Shotei (see: shotei.com) as a hard-copy. That catalog will remain on-line and will be updated over time as necessary. Given current technology, it's the only way to maintain an perpetually accurate catalog.
However, it's taking the rest of the scholarly world a while to resign themselves to this dynamic change. Some scholarly works (and print dealers) make reference to my catalog and website, but most continue to refer to the less complete printed catalog of the Shotei exhibition at the Ota-ku Folk Museum which was published in 2005. Apparently, the fact that it was printed in hard-copy gives it, in the minds of some, more credibility.
Ultimately, the superiority of the on-line dynamic approach will be universally appreciated, but currently we are in transition.
