The reading is shown in the script at right upper of the image.
It says "げんたん”, gentan (源丹). The clearer image helps me reading the text, thank you, Irwin san.

Oni Gentan or Take(no)uchi Gentan is a bandit, who was beaten by samurai Araki Mataemon (Masaemon).
It is not a true story, just a fantasy I'm sure.
