The twelve prints by Kitagawa Utamaro illustrating the process of silk culture have been reproduced in a 1965 book skilfully printed by the Grabhorn Press of San Francisco (with an introduction by Jack Hillier), for the Book Club of California. The comment on the 4th print reads as follow: "Stirring the silkworms: The intensive cultivation of the grub leads to cycles of rest and activity. Here a girl is stirring the silkworms in a tray with a feather, end ending their fourth rest, or "greatest sleep." Another girl stands ready with another tray of worms, a third is bearing away empty trays."
