Hello, questioners and answerers !
An ukiyoe mystery for you to solve :
- The paper is "real", it appears to be from the 18th century or thereabouts, based on all my experience collecting prints of that period
- The lines of the carving differ, in subtle details, from those in known examples of this Utamaro print
- There is a place near the belt of the woman's kimono, where the black block overlaps the blue color block in an unusual way
- If this is a "copy", then it is a very, very elaborate and skilled one. Such that, would be hard to imagine the motive of the workers who produced it.
What is it ? ? ?
