Mitsugoro III is here performing as a Chinese man ('Daidokoro Tojin') as part of a festival ('sairei'). This was one of 12 sections each illustrating one of the 12 months, in the 'hengemono' dance 'Shiki no Nagame Yosete Mitsudai' performed at the Nakamura Theatre in the 3rd month of 1813. The yellow cartouche at the top reads 'Junikagetsu Minazuki' ('the 12 months - the waterless month'). The 'waterless month' was another name for the 6th month.
