Are you sure it's an American ship? In my opinion this print is an unusually accurate depiction of a Western type vessel, and I wonder if it could in fact be the Kankô Maru (観光丸), a barque with an auxiliary steam engine that was presented to the shogun by the king of the Netherlands already in 1855 and transferred to the Tsukiji Naval Training Center in Edo in 1857. Consequently, it was a vessel that Sadahide probably was very familiar with, when he designed the print in the 1860s.
