I was thinking older artists such as Hokusai, Utamaro, Hiroshige for example ?

I mean yes, some of their pupils took over their name, and have redesigned similar prints, but not in a term of carbon copy I mean, such as Takamizawa did in the 1890's posthumously.

My question is, is there any artist, that had their own design replicated to the near perfection in an attempt to make it look like an original during their own lifetime ? ( Except for the great and so popular Shotei ? :)

And if so, would you have an example ?
