I believe that Masakado was given the name Sōma Kojirō early on in life, and later, Sōma also became the name of his palace in Shimōsa. It may not be historically accurate, but the building shown in the background of the centre sheet is likely to be the Sōma Palace because we can see Masakado's banner of a leaping black horse within its walls. Therefore I think the title would be 'The Battle at Sōma, a triptych'. (Or, since the kanji for 'sanmai-tsuzuki' are smaller than the others, perhaps they are not actually part of the title.) Anyway, I'm sure the incident depicted is as you described. Sadamori is just about to shoot the arrow that knocks Masakado off his horse. A great design, by the way.
