I looked at the second print now, the one with the octopus. Thinking about the stroke-order of the kanji 'kiyo', that reading actually does seem plausible. First character could be a very crude shortcut method of 'kiyo', leaving out most of the strokes.

This is quite interesting, since it remains to be seen whether the sketch is by a Torii school artist. Certainly let us know the verdict, when you find out !
