if you are familiar with Hokusai, there is a series of Surimono's that are very popular because they were re printed in the meiji Era, but almost no museum have the original referenced. ( The original was a very small edition, probably less than 50, and almost all of them are completely gone. Although they have become popular from the meiji replica. This series is called Shisho no uchi. Almost all museums only have the replica.
So yes, technically, there is always the option that all the museums are wrong, that all of them carry an Edo era replica, and that this print would be the original. The only problem with it, is that it will be very hard to prove. You will need to send this copy to the Museum of Fine art in Boston for example, and have the curator study this print. Then, he would have to admit that this could be the original edition, and thereby agree that the museum carry a modern replica or a second edition from newly carved block.
I wish you good luck in that quest :)
One think for sure : This is not the block from all the ones listed by all various museums.
