常陸(ひだち)の国(くに)の浪人(らうにん)にて大阪(おゝさか)
生玉辺(いくだまへん)に居(い)たりしが幕吏(ばくり)
の手(て)に取囲(とりかこ)まれ荒陵山(こうりやうざん)にて
自殺(しさつ)して其(その)名(な)を四方(よも)に
残(のこ)されたり今(いま)に元三大師(ぐわんざんだいし)の
傍(かたへ)に碑名(ひめい)を建(たて)られける

A quick translation of the text into English:

"He was a Rônin from Hitachi province. When he was around Ikudama in Ôsaka, he was surrounded and captured by shogunate officials and committed suicide at the Kôryôzan temple (= today known as Shitennō-ji), so that his name became known all over the land. Then, a memorial stone for him was erected and placed next to the statue of Ganzai daishi (= better known as the monk Ryôgen)."
