I checked Kabuki21 earlier but I don't think the information there is correct where is stated that the actor took this name in 1854. The okubi-e from the Kunisada mirror series also shown at Kabuki21 depicting Band˘ Shuch˘ dates from 1832-33. If you click the name of Band˘ Shuch˘ on the page of the National Theatre of Japan (second link above, click 坂東 秀調<俳名>) there it is stated that Band˘ Shuch˘ was indeed Mitsugor˘ IV, however it is still unclear to me when he was using the name Shuch˘. Taking in account the date of Kunisada's okubi-e mirror series, it must be around 1832-33.
