It wasn't unusual for illustrated books to appear in both "deluxe" and "regular" printings, with the deluxe ones having more color or other fancy printing effects. And looking around online, it appears to me that there was indeed an original color printing of this work. That said, later hand-coloring of monochrome prints is also a thing, so all I can suggest is to try to find an image of a color version of one of your pages and see if the coloration of the two are consistent with one another.

It looks like there is a color printing in the Pulverer collection (Smithsonian), but the page is broken at the moment; hopefully that will get fixed at some point!
