If, like me you were wondering why one of the caracters had a closed umbrella on the head, you'll be surprised by this explanation (below info taken from floating world study)

Over time the government had begun to disapprove of samurai visiting brothels and many wore large hats to hide their identities. In 1693 and again in 1735 daimyo were banned from visiting the Yoshiwara.
