I don't really know what this is, John, and I've yet to find a similar "Kitao" seal anywhere, but I can't shake the thought that Kitao Shigemasa might be a more likely attribution than Masayoshi. Shigemasa was, of course, a fairly prolific surimono designer (including shikishiban designs), whereas I haven't seen much evidence of Masayoshi working in that format.

But as I say that's just a hunch, and who knows what information the author of that mat inscription had?
