From the back you can only see whether it is a woodcut or not.
To decide whether it is an original print from the artist's time, one has to compare the contour lines of an existing print with other prints that are considered to be original.
For an article in the de: WP I searched the internet for original prints and uploaded them to WP-Commons (others can be found in the relevant databases).
