There is a Toyokuni III triptych print with the 3 men on a bridge. You can find it at:

C: Arashi Rikan III -- 嵐璃寛[3] as Takasago Yuminosuke -- 高砂 勇見之助

So it wouldl appear that the scene for the display would be some performance of this play.
