I haven't found another impression of this design anywhere, but here's what I can say...
Depicted are:
- Kataoka Ichizō 片岡市蔵 as Ōta no Jūrō 太田十郎
- Onoe Kikugorō 尾上菊五郎 as Tabakoya Genshichi たばこ屋源七
Tabakoya Genshichi seems to be a character in a number of plays, but here's a design featuring both these characters in a strikingly similar composition (but with different actors), in an 1888 performance:
https://archive.waseda.jp/archive/subDB-search.html?arg={%22item_per_page%22:20,%22sortby%22:[%22%22,%22ASC%22],%22view%22:%22display-simple%22,%22pagination%22:{%22page%22:1},%22sort_by%22:[%221179a%22,%22ASC%22],%22advanced_search%22:true,%22subDB_id%22:%2252%22,%22search_key%22:%22%22,%22variable_parts%22:[{%22name%22:%221180%22,%22value%22:%22100-3604%22}]}&lang=en
In this case the play is "Shū no Haru Kabuki no Kakizome" 周春戯書始.
Alternatively, I see that the play "Komochi Yamauba" 嫗山姥 also prominently features Tabakoya Genshichi, so that may be another lead to pursue.
