I've recently acquired a couple of beat-up fan prints with unfamiliar signatures. Neither is properly ukiyo-e -- this one is maybe more of a Zeshin-esque neo-Shijō style, but I'm hoping someone can help anyway.
The first signature I've found a couple of other examples of, in the form of decorative title pages on small books/pamphlets dated 1887 and attributed to dramatists Kawatake Shinshichi (III?), Kisui Takeshiba, and Kawatake Mokuami. Scans of the works:
The fan print can be seen here:
The signature appears to be 島女 -- perhaps read "Tōjo"??? -- and the seal "Kawatake" 河竹, but I haven't been able to find any other information.
